Lift.... or elevator?

Ever heard of this joke about the lift and the elevator?

Americans insist that it should be called an elevator because it was invented by an American.

British insist that it should be called a lift.... because they invented the English language! :p

Which one do you use?

I use both, whichever that comes to mind on the spur of the moment.

To me, it's just a word used to represent that electricity-driven box that carries us up and down... as long as others know what I refer to, it should be fine. Just a way of communication.

And that's the way I look at all the silly attacks regarding the use of the word 'Allah'.

Why can't everybody just be more open-minded and look at it as a mere language interpretation? If there ever should be a war (of words), it should be among linguists, not the so-called pious people.

Or am I witnessing the setting off of a new trend where special words would be patented in the future?

In any case, if THE CREATOR is in your heart, HE WILL BE no matter what you call HIM. It's just like how some people give cute or stupid nicknames to their dear family members, but the nicknames make them all the more dearest.

On the other hand, if you do not have HIM in your heart, what's the point of all the sweet words 'hanging from your mouth'.

Even a husband who calls his wife Honey or Darling could be cheating outside :p
