What is it??

I turned off the lights and slept early last night, only to wake up in the middle of the night feeling itchy all over my body. When I turned on the lights, I saw red spots and rashes on my body and limbs! Looking at those rashes gave me a shiver!

So itchy that I could not go back to sleep... kept turning around in bed. I dared not scratch for fear of leaving scars or that the rashes might spread.... but it was so irritating! How I wished for a steamy hot bath or that fish spa Bamboo had......

I remember having rashes when I was small and my mom told me it's 'fung mok' (风膜)... not sure what is the Western medical term for it..... back then my mom would rub some whitish substance and warn me not to scratch. She also covered me up because the condition could worsen when exposed to air (风)....

All sorts of possibilities crossed my mind.

1) Dengue? Chikungunya?
But I do not have fever or muscle pain.....

2) Insect bites?

3) Could it be the chicken rice I had for lunch? Bird flu or bird
infection?

4) Or the squid in the tom yam fried rice that I had for dinner?
Allergy?
But I was never allergic to squids or prawns.

5) What about that glass of hot chocolate I had that
afternoon? Maybe it contained something imported from
China?

I started tracing what I had taken for the past two to three days... but certainly it would not take that long to take effects if it's allergy? Besides, they were probably floating in the septic tank by now :p

I kept thinking and rolling in bed, and cocooned myself (including my head) in blanket (in case it's 'fung mok' :p)... telling myself to go see a doctor the next day and call my mom. After 'struggling' in bed for some time, I finally managed to drift off...

Strangely, when I woke up this morning, all the rashes and red spots were gone... not feeling itchy anymore.... everything's back to normal.... but I'm very sure it was not all a dream :p

I hope it means Goodbye! and not a See-You-Again-Tonight....

I still have no idea what it is....

Has anyone of you had similar experience before?

Can anyone tell me what it is????

Nope, never experienced that before... don't even know what "feng mok" is :P. But maybe it's because the bedsheet / mattress / pillow etc. is dirty and you got rashes? But I suspect it's mostly just some insects and since it's not powerful enough, your body managed to heal itself loh.

Dear Sir/Madam,
The article has shown that the fearful victim is well known about the reasons for itching and rashes on his body. The alertness in his mind certainly will not lead to either dengue or chikungunya. He could save himself by taking the drugs due to self healing disease. Let him also spread the messages for prevention of Vectors breeding in and around home.
with kind regards,

Sounds like a reaction to something. As long as you had no difficulty breathing I would be less worried. Maybe bedbugs? If so, there would be recurrent episodes though. The important thing is that it's gone, and you've not scarred yourself:)

It happened for two nights in a row, but stopped after that even though I did not change the bedsheet, so it could not be bedbugs. Ya, luckily, I'm fine now. :)

I had the same problem, every now and then I have this rashes over my arms, body.. an allergic reaction, which I yet to identify what causes it. The only solution is to take anti histamine medications, until you find out the source(s) of the problem. I am planning to do an allergen test to find out.

It is nothing to worry, just you immune system on red alert (going haywire), too hyperactive.. probably a peckle of dust on your body but your immune system thinks isa dangerous invader and unleash its fury. Other than that, only the itchiness is damn annoying and frustrating, it can be embarassing if the rashes happen at visible parts of the body ehehee...

Hey listen to this song - Cure for the Itch. HAHA!
